Employee benefits are a great way to attract and retain quality employees.  Recent studies show that 95% of employees weigh job benefits before deciding to stay or take a new position, with 77% primarily concerned with health insurance.

Although there is a cost to offering an employee benefit package, some costs can be offset by taxes and payroll.

For example, some insurance companies only require 50% employer contribution of the employee only rate and 0% of the dependent cost. In addition, the 50% employer contribution can be deducted as a normal and usual business expense. Also, the employee contribution can be pre-taxed; reducing the cost to the employees, and the employer does not match the FICA payroll taxes (with installed section 125 plan documents  ).

(For more information on the tax savings, contact one of our Agents and / or your Accountant.)

When considering employee benefits for your company, it I a good idea to consult the guidance of an independent agent. An independent agent acts as an advocate between you and the insurance companies at no additional cost.

Employers do have some fiduciary responsibilities and can be exposed to financial liabilities.

Section 125 Plan documents (or Premium Only Plan documents) refer section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code.  Before offering employees benefits these documents MUST be installed. Most payroll companies will pre-tax your benefits, but without these documents, the employer can face substantial fines. For more information these documents, click here.
